Bassano del Grappa

At just seven kilometres away along the road to Asolo and Montebelluna, Bassano del Grappa is certainly the closest stop of interest near Marostica.
For those of you thinking of just spending a few minutes in the town to have a typical tourist snap taken on the Old Bridge... Don’t! We recommend spending at least a few hours here so that you have a proper chance to soak up the distinctive beauty of the town’s cobbled streets, and piazzas, it’s breathtaking countryside views from the river Brenta, and the mountains which give Bassano it’s impressive backdrop.
There is something for all tastes… if tales of the Great War passed down through the years, and the heart felt letters of Ernest Hemmingway are your cup of tea then the Alpini museum is definitely worth dropping into. The Tempio Ossario, and the Viale dei Martiri (Vale of Martyrs) with its helmet-shaped trees are two more fine memorials to the tragic events of both World Wars that saw blood shed on the majestic peaks of Mount Grappa.
For art lovers a must is a viewing of the splendid Veneto collection of art kept in the old Fransiscan monastery that is now the Civic Museum. The museum houses many of the most artistic and literary works of Antonio Canova, in addition to over eight thousand prints from the Remondini collection. The antique ceramics of Alto Vicentino, that at one time graced the royal residences throughout Europe, now make up an impressive collection in the Sturm Palace.

For a truly unique experience with a strong local flavour, the world’s only Grappa Museum, set in the fitting surroundings of the Poli distillery will give those interested all the information they could wish for on the potent brew – and of course a chance to taste it!
Worried about places to shop…? Fear not! You will be spoilt for choice. You can find everything from furniture, goldsmiths, typical foods, local D.O.C wines to ceramics and clothes.
